Extra Details: "The Umbrellas" was an art installation project created by the Bulgarian environmental artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude in 1991. The project involved the simultaneous installation of 1,760 large umbrellas in two locations: 1,340 blue umbrellas in Japan and 430 yellow umbrellas in California, USA. The umbrellas were set up on large metal stands and were designed to be opened and closed by the public, creating a dynamic and interactive installation. The project was intended to celebrate the beauty and versatility of umbrellas as well as to explore the relationship between nature and human-made objects. The installation was a massive undertaking, involving a team of over 200 workers and volunteers who spent months preparing and installing the umbrellas. "The Umbrellas" remains one of Christo and Jeanne-Claude's most iconic and memorable works, and continues to be celebrated for its beauty and innovation. The project helped to push the boundaries of art and design and sparked important discussions about the relationship between humans, nature, and the built environment
